Gregory’s denunciations of unworthy clergy sound like a prophetic warning to all future generations of clergy. In the 11th century, Simeon the New Theologian, clearly under the influence of Gregory, addressed the bishops and priests of his time with similar denunciations. As long as there are archpastors in the Church who are unworthy of their calling, the word of Gregory remains relevant.
