Those who adhere to superstition sin gravely against the first commandment of God. Superstition, or vain faith, is a faith based on nothing, unworthy of true Christians.
The Holy Fathers and teachers of the Church often warned against prejudices and superstitions, which sometimes deceived ancient Christians.
Superstitions come from a person’s desire to explain everything, to establish connections in everything, from arrogance and self-will, from accepting the false as true.
We must remember that superstitions are often our forgotten childhood fears and fantasies, which from time to time emerge from the area of the subconscious and disfigure a person’s life, appearing in different forms in false symbols and actions.
May the Lord save us from all types of superstition! And since we know that superstition begins in people from infancy, it is our duty to raise children in such a way that their young souls are not infected by superstition. Let children from an early age learn to love the Church, to run to God in prayer, and to see the saving power in church rituals and sacred rites. Let children from a young age learn to have correct concepts about the Providence of God, which directs everything to good: then their soul will not become infected with superstition, then they will not be afraid of anything invented by human stupidity. They will fear only the wrath of God, they will think only about how not to incur condemnation for their sins and bring themselves to eternal destruction.
