For the first time in Russian, "Bloody Joke" was published in 1928 in the translation of D. Glickman . However, from the novel written by Sholem Aleichem, there remained almost only a fabula and a description of the plight of the Jews under the “cursed tsarism”. From the vivid and complex narrative were excluded pictures of the life of the Jewish community, pages reflecting the Jewish faith, traditions, historical heritage of the Jewish people. And of course quite in the spirit of the time no citation of sacred texts! For some reason, even the romantic line was shortened . In the end, the translation was almost twice as short as the original and had little to do with Sholem Aleichem's Bloody Joke.
