Flammarion Camille . [1842-1925] The number of inhabited worlds - An outline of the living conditions of the inhabitants of other planets 1908 [djvu 319sc 320c. 1.42mb]Pre-Revolutionary Orthography. Flammarion, Nicola Camille (18421925), French astronomer. Born on 26 February 1842 in Montigny-le-Roi. He received his own education.. From 1858 to 1862 he worked as a computer scientist at the Paris Observatory, from 1862 to 1876 as a computer scientist at the Longitude Bureau in Paris, and from 1876 to 1882 as an employee of the Paris Observatory. In 1861 Flammarion's book The Plurality of Inhabited Worlds was published, which marked the beginning of a large series of his popular astronomical works. Soon after the publication was translated into many languages of the world and only in France for twenty years it was reprinted thirty times, Flammarion was one of the first to formulate the thesis about the comparability of civilizations in terms of development. All mankind inhabiting different planets constitute one common, connected chain of thinking beings. In the whole universe of mankind, they do not remain at the same stage of development; they rise higher and higher, they create an infinite variety among the star worlds. The book is written in figurative and poetic language (the corporate style of all the works of Flammarion), contains interesting information on the history of astronomy and philosophy. To get to the source of this strange teaching, to find out, Which of the mortals do we owe to this amazing penetration of the human spirit? We need to mentally move on to those holy nights, The Soul , Alone with Nature , under the sacred vault of the boundless starry sky , He is silently watching .. Thousands of stars, scattered across the vast expanse of the universe, pour on our earth a soft glow, which determines the place we occupy among the universe. The mysterious idea of infinity completely captures us, obscures everything earthly and imperceptibly takes us to those distant worlds that are inaccessible to the faint human eye....
