Lenin and a number of subsequent volumes include works relating to the period of the world imperialist war. The present volume includes works written by Lenin in the first year of the war - from July 1914 to August 1915. The works included in the present volume were written by Lenin in Switzerland, where he moved from Poronin shortly after the outbreak of the war. Most of these works were published in the Central Organ of the R.S.D.L.P., the newspaper Sotsial-Demokrat ., restored by Lenin after a one-year break. Volume opens with Lenin's famous theses "The Tasks of Revolutionary Social-Democracy in the European War" and Lenin's Manifesto of the Central Committee of the RSDLP "War and Russian Social-Democracy" written on their basis. The first documents ,................................... who defined and expressed the position of the Bolshevik Party in relation to the war. The most important provisions formulated in these documents were developed in the resolutions of the Berne Bolshevik Conference, which had the significance of an all-Russian conference, written by Lenin. "Conference of Foreign Sections of the RSDLP"). A detailed explanation and justification of the line of the Bolshevik Party during the war was included in Lenin's pamphlet "Socialism and War (Relation of the R.S.D.L.P. to War)", written for the first international socialist conference. On the basis of the imperialist character of the war, Lenin defined the party’s position in relation to it. He put forward a slogan: to turn an imperialist war into a civil war. “A revolution in time of war is a civil war,” Lenin said. Therefore, the Bolsheviks fought for revolution in the conditions of the world imperialist war under the slogan of turning it into a civil war. This slogan stemmed from all the conditions of the war, from the fact that it created a revolutionary situation in most of the countries of Europe. The bourgeoisie and social-chauvinists blamed the Bolsheviks for the lack of patriotism, love for the motherland. In response to these slanderous attacks, Lenin came up with an article “On the National Pride of Great Russians”, in which he explained how patriotism should be understood and how to combine it with internationalism. In the article "Russian zudekum" , "What 'unity' did Larin proclaim at the Swedish convention?", "How do the servileness of reaction connect with the game of democracy?", "Under a foreign flag" (CM) "Social-chauvinist Sophisms" Lenin exposes the social-chauvinism of the Mensheviks - Plekhanov's position , Axelrod , Potresov , Cherevanin and others . In the articles “The Collapse of the Second International”, “The Position and Tasks of the Socialist International”, “Dead chauvinism and living socialism (How to restore the International?)”, “What next? (On the tasks of the workers’ parties in relation to opportunism and social-chauvinism)”, etc. Lenin denounces the social-chauvinists and centrists in German, French, Belgian, English Social-Democracy, reveals the causes of the collapse of the Second International, characterizes the tasks of the left socialists.
