Lenin's works include those written from March 12 to June 27, 1919. This was a period when foreign imperialists intensified their military intervention against the Soviet Union. In early March 1919, Kolchak's army went on the offensive and captured Ufa; in the south, General Denikin occupied Luhansk and part of the Donbas; in May, General Yudenich launched an attack on Petrograd; from the north, General Miller's White Guards and detachments of British, American and French interventionists attacked. The works created by Lenin during this period testify to the great attention of the Communist Party to the problems of the transition from capitalism to socialism, the prospects for the deployment of socialist construction in the Soviet country, and the preparation of a new Communist Party Program. These questions were devoted to the VIII Congress of the Party, held in March 1919. In his speech at the opening of the congress, Lenin stressed that the tasks of creation were being put forward in the foreground, despite the war, and that all the work of the congress would go under the sign of these tasks.
