The Shiva Mahimna Stotra or hymn dedicated to Shiva in Glory is one of the finest hymns in Sanskrit literature. Once entering Samadhi, Sri Ramakrishna repeated it continuously. The anthem is majestic in content, sublime in intonation and has few equals in impact. Some of his shlokas do not find consonance with modern people, but still their impact on the consciousness of the reader is not small. The presentation of this beautiful Hymn is brought from the highest levels of Being. Many repeat it every day, and although not everyone fully understands it, it still brings great benefit to their consciousness. Those who understand its meaning advance along the path of spiritual development. No one knows exactly who the author of this collection is. According to legend, it was composed by Gandharva Pushpadanta in gratitude to Shiva, whose wrath he caused by stepping on the flowers left at the place of worship of the almighty God. Sloka 37 confirms this legend. And many Shaivites perceive this Hymn under the authorship of Pushpadanta. But whoever the author was, he became immortal and gained the gratitude of all those who worship the Lord at all times. PavitranandaAdvaita Ashram Mayawati February 28, 1938
