The theoretical part illustrates the close relationship of the structure of carbohydrates, their chemical properties with the biological functions of this important class of compounds. The first section is devoted to monosaccharides: the main focus is on the consideration of stereoisomerism, tautomeric transformations of monosaccharides, and especially those chemical reactions that provide the biological role of carbohydrates in wildlife. The sections on oligo- and polysaccharides consider the classification and conformational structure, give an idea of the conjugation of carbohydrates with protein molecules (glycoproteins and pro-theoglycans) and discuss their biological role.
