The monograph is the first general study of choral art on the Don, which examines the history of the spread of this type of musical practice and development trends during the XVIII - early XX century. It was created on the basis of information contained in archival documents and pre-revolutionary periodicals. The author traces the process of formation of professional and amateur choral performance, church choirs and singing training . The study covers the phenomena that took place on the territory of the former Oblast of the troops of Donskoy, Taganrog and Rostov. Separate paragraphs of the study are devoted to the Bishops' Choir, the Military Song Chapel and the Court Song Chapel in Taganrog . The publication publishes for the first time summarized in the tables information about choirs at churches and regents, priests and teachers who taught children to sing. The book is addressed to scientists, teachers, students and performers who study choral art and are involved in the practice of choral singing.
