It contains poems by the author, including “The Song of the Poor”, “First of all” and the famous ballad “John Barley Grain”, which is based on folk beliefs about cheerful spirits. This rebellious cheerfulness of Scottish folklore in the first Russian translation was replaced by the Russian epic "Ivan Erofeich Bread-grain" .. A Scottish peasant turned into a Russian peasant, and kings became “kings” The “Busurmans” and the “Strangers” [D.T.] These and other changes gave the ballad a different national flavor.
