The book is a gallery of portraits of Russian liberal thinkers and politicians of the XVIII-XIX centuries, created by the efforts of leading researchers of Russian political thought. Among the heroes of the book there are people of different professions, cultural and political preferences, sometimes sharply polemicized with each other. However, the subject of their dispute was to outline the most organic ways for Russia to achieve a single liberal goal - the acquisition of "Russian freedom", understood primarily as positive, creative freedom of the individual.
