The present collection of works and letters of Afanasy Afanasyevich Fet (1820-1892) is the first attempt to publish in the possible completeness of the entire diverse heritage of the great Russian poet. Poems, fiction, translations, memoirs, letters are distributed according to the genre-chronological principle. The first volume includes the entire first four books of Fet's poems in the form in which they appeared to the reading public, as well as an extensive section of the works of 1839-1863. Not included in the collection. Poems that have been edited and . C. Turgenev, subsequently not disavowed by Fet, are printed in both editions. The comments detail the creative history of the Fet books, using numerous memoirs and epistolary evidence. Much attention is paid to the reaction of contemporaries to Fet's innovative poetry, numerous variants are given, remaining in the manuscripts.
