Aulus Persius Flaccus (Aulus Persius Flaccus) - one of the poets of the time of Nero, belonged to aristocratic circles and was a supporter of Stoic philosophy, popular among the slaveholding elite of Roman society of the first centuries AD e. Adherents of Stoic philosophy saw in the preaching of morality and moral self-improvement one of the means of correcting the degenerated modern ancient society. Persius wrote "Satires" and considered himself a follower of Lucilius and Horace. But if Horace in his early “Satires” could still, like Lucilius, allow himself to be ridiculed by the vices of his society, the political atmosphere of Nero’s time allowed only abstract philosophical satire. Only the first of the six satires of Persia, devoted to literary questions, is more specific. In it, Persia expresses its protest against idle poetry, against those poets who pursue only the external beautiful form of works. Topics of other satires of abstract ethical character: about self-knowledge, about true freedom, about the benefits of philosophy, etc. d. However, even in these satires, despite the distraction of the subject, many life sketches, many live deviations, which testify to the sincere indignation of Persia against the greed and tenderness of the elite of society, against debauchery and ignorance.
