These Rules are revised every year to improve the safety of athletes, the quality of the game, as well as to clarify the meaning and objectives of certain rules. These Rules shall apply to all competitions under the auspices of the IFAF and shall enter into force on 1 March 2015.. For the sake of brevity, this edition uses a masculine pronoun, but these Rules are equally applicable to both male and female participants. Principles on which all rule changes are based: Rules should ensure the safety of all participants. The rules should be applicable at all levels of games and competitions. Rules must be accessible. The rules should be simple to apply. Rules must maintain a balance between defense and attack. The rules should be interesting for viewers. The rules should not have negative economic consequences.
