This work is a doctoral thesis, prepared with the aim of "promoting the liberation of modern Christian consciousness from the seductive ghosts of paganism" .. According to the author, the criterion in the evaluation of any beliefs is the “truth of the existence of God”, in the diverse relations with which religious consciousness enters. Vvedensky believed that for the pagan ("natural") consciousness, the existence of God was only partially revealed, criticized the features and shortcomings of the "false religious life", understanding it as a "world tragedy of faith" .. In this work, ideas about religious consciousness developed by Vvedensky's teacher - B. D. Kudryavtsev-Platonov in the cycle "From readings on the philosophy of religion" . The universal idea of religious development, proposed by Kudryavtsev-Platonov, Vvedensky appeared in the concept of “natural” religious consciousness, striving for the search for positive religious truth, but gradually coming to complete degradation.
