SPb. : St. Petersburg State University, 2008. — 208 s. — ISBN 978-5-288-04733-6 . The monograph outlines the basic elements of the theory of gravitational (and formally coincides with it electrostatic) potential and considers the most important cases of its explicit expression through elementary and special functions. For spaces of different dimensions, the properties of the Laplace operator in numerous systems of curvilinear coordinates, the general properties of the potential and methods of its location are described in detail. The potential for direct, logarithmic potential of one-dimensional and two-dimensional bodies, Newtons potential of one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional bodies, potential in J-dimensional space are separately considered. For many specific bodies (mostly homogeneous) explicit expressions of potential are derived. Some of the results were obtained by the authors. The book can be useful and serve as a reference for specialists in the field of gravimetry, geodesy, celestial mechanics and stellar dynamics, electrostatics, and can also be used as a teaching aid by students and graduate students of the relevant profile.
