The monograph examines the subject and methods of modern linguistic semantics and gives a detailed description of the results of the study of the semantics of the Russian verb on the basis of its syntactic (distributive and transformational) properties. In particular, methods for distinguishing meanings and determining their productivity, methods for constructing semantic classes of verb meanings and constructing a hierarchy of classes and grammar of the dictionary are presented; the results of the application of this apparatus to the material of the Russian language are reported.
