Imprint not known. Characteristics of antonyms contained in special literature can be conditionally divided into two parts: paradigmatic and syntagmatic. Paradigmatic properties of antonyms are usually described as follows: antonyms have opposite or inverse, but not contradictory values. This emphasizes the inherent antonym semantic community ,. which manifests itself in "relationship of values" (Shansky 1964), or in their belonging to one "lexical-semantic paradigm" (Shmelev 1964) or (more specifically) in , that they express the same generic concept (Novikov 1966,) Rodicheva 1968). Sometimes definitions are nuanced (as it seems, not so much in essence, but in terminology) due to the distinction between the real, logical and linguistic aspects of antonymy. The community of antonyms is derived from their own semantic properties, not from the real properties of the phenomena or things they designate, because there are no opposite phenomena and things (Commissioners 1957). it is said that antonyms express opposite concepts and have polar meanings (Novikov 1966).
