Under the title "Untimely Thoughts" published Maxim Gorky in his edited Petrograd newspaper "New Life" most of his journalistic articles in 1917-1918. This was the most fruitful period in the activities of Gorky-publicist .. Since the preparation by the Bolsheviks of a violent coup and their policy after the seizure of power were in contradiction with the political program of the New Life, Bolshevik actions received a sharply negative assessment on its pages. At the same time, Gorky played a prominent role in the criticism of Bolshevism .. The controversy between "New Life" and "Truth" has become a frequent occurrence. But to fight the word with Gorky and the "New Life" the Bolsheviks were not on the shoulder . There was a tried-and-tested remedyviolence. In February 1918, "New Life" was closed because of Sukhanov's article "Capitulation" about the Brest Peace, but eight days later received permission to leave. In June 1918, a new closure followed for several days, and on July 16 of the same year, by order of Lenin, the publication of the New Life was discontinued forever. Not a single article of the present collection has been reprinted in Soviet Russia since 1918, and there are none in the “most complete” bibliographies of M. works published in the USSR. Gorky .
