In this edition, for the first time, a complete translation of the Treatise on Painting appears in Russian. Translation made from Ludwig's edition as the most critical and scientific (newer Italian edition. Vatican Codex, for example, ed. Tabarrini with a Vasarian biography of Leonardo and notes on it Milanesi, Rome, 1890, and two-volume edition . Berzelli, Lanciano, 1914, did not introduce anything essentially new), and his designations of the work on the original of the unknown editors are preserved (p. 3, p. 2 and t. d. ). All the features of the manuscript, the translators tried to reproduce, as far as possible, which the original put insurmountable sometimes obstacles. First of all, of course, we had to abandon the transmission of traces of the original Lombard dialect, as well as from numerous and often very peculiar abbreviations. The second difficulty is the almost complete absence of punctuation: there are no commas in the code anywhere, the point with a comma and the point is not always put Leonardo's simple syntax does not usually cause misunderstandings, but it can still give rise to ambiguities and the possibility of other interpretations of the text.
