Yuri Pavlovich Trubetskoy (present name Menshikov, pseudonym Nolden before emigration; 1898(?) - 1974, West Germany) - poet, prose writer, writer of the “second wave” of emigration. Published in Russian periodicals abroad in the magazines Sovremennik (Toronto), New Journal, etc., as well as in anthologies abroad. He has published 3 poetry collections. In post-Soviet Russia, poems were published only in anthologies. He corresponded with almost many “iconic” figures of the Russian emigration of that time: with Ivan Bunin, Georgy Ivanov, B. Zaitsev, I. Odoevtseva, G. Adamovich, V. Sumbatov, Yu. Terapiano and others. This is what Ivan Bunin wrote to Yu. Trubetskoy: “...you undoubtedly have the main thing: a poetic feeling. And don’t write “sparingly,” write more, don’t dry yourself out.” Yuri Terapiano wrote: “in his general mood, in the texture of his verse and in his stylistic devices, Yu. Trubetskoy belonged to the St. Petersburg line.” As the French Slavist, professor, Rene Guerra writes ( who personally knew the poet): “He was an extraordinary poet... in his poetry the theme of Russia is closely connected with the theme of nostalgia. Hence another theme: foreign lands and loneliness...” This electronic collection of poems includes completely two collections of the poet: “Double” (Paris, 1954) and “Blackthorn” (Paris, 1962) thanks to the painstaking research of Andrei Nikitin-Perensky (the “Second” library literature"), the publication of "The Double" (http://www.vtoraya-literatura.com/publ_533.html), the publication of "Thorn" (http://www.vtoraya-literatura.com/publ_519.html), as well as poems from different years. It seems that for most readers, this name will be another discovery in the vast “ocean” of forgotten literary islands of the Russian diaspora.
