In 1995, historians of physics affiliated with the S.I. Vavilov Institute for the History of Science and Technology at the Russian Academy of Sciences, or closely connected to it through their research interests, published a book titled "Physics of the 19th and 20th Centuries in General Scientific and Sociocultural Contexts: Physics of the 19th Century." This was the first part of a planned trilogy dedicated to the history of classical physics. The second part was intended to explore the history of modern—relativistic and quantum—physics of the 20th century, while the third part would delve into the connections between contemporary physics and other natural sciences (or, more broadly, the history of natural science viewed through a "physical lens"). Ultimately, it was decided to combine the last two parts into a single volume: "Physics of the 19th and 20th Centuries in General Scientific and Sociocultural Contexts: Physics of the 20th Century and Its Connections with Other Branches of Natural Science."
