In the 70s, the UVN published an enthusiastic review of Zeldovich: The book under review seems to me to be outstanding in three main ways: first, an important topic, second, new, often unexpected results, finally, in the third, a bright, unusual way of presenting . Half of humanity was born after the launch of the first satellite of the Earth In the space age, there is no need to prove the importance of the problem of the movement of space bodies, and primarily the flight of artificial space bodies. Therefore, I will not elaborate here on the importance of the topic. The wealth of content and the abundance of new results, however, need to be explained. It would seem that the problem of the movement of the body in zero gravity of the Earth or in the Solar system is so simple and so thoroughly studied that it is difficult to look for in this .. There is a problem with .. However, here there is a rule that is repeated more than once in other fields of science: practical applications make it necessary to have more detailed, more accurate knowledge, set the task of developing optimal methods of action. Before the beginning, there are only complications of the problem, the clarity and beauty of simplified theories are lost, but on the next stage, a new point of view appears, and theories describing the results of more detailed calculations and a new beauty appear. In order not to be unfounded, I will give the names of the chapters (sketches, as the author calls them): 1. On the irresistible and perturbed motion of satellites with a departure from the asymptotic methods of nonlinear mechanics 2. About the second birth of the old problem, or what happens if two masses are placed at a purely imaginary distance from each other? Another old task brought back to life. 4. Movement . Worlds . 5. Limited task of three bodies and flight to the moon. 6. They waltz in orbits. 7. Into Space by Spiral. 8. The Sun is Full of Sails . 9. Engraving. 10. Interplanetary flights - small thrusts for large purposes. 11. Relative motion of orbital bodies. 12. The Space Shuttle . So, we consider both small forces of light pressure and the problem of movement in the field of several tols .. It is interesting to consider resonance phenomena in the system of several bodies. Especially curious is the ability to change the trajectory of the cosmic body due to internal movements - due to periodic changes in the quadrunol moment ("gravilet") I hasten to warn the reader of the review: the effect exists due to the fact that the gravitational field of the Earth depends on the coordinate, is not reduced to a constant, in other words, contains tidal forces. Without this remark, it might seem that a gravilet is impossible - at the very fraction, the effect is small (contains a square ratio of body size to the radius of the Earth), but not equal to zero. The author cites several letters from angry but insufficiently thoughtful readers of previously published articles describing the gravilet. There are also letters with strong statements about “ignorance and vicious practice”, “it’s time to expose some doctors” and so on. p. Let’s move on to the style of the book.... For a solid scientific monograph, the style is unusual. The author frankly and in detail explains the reasons for each calculation, its difficulties, each time emphasizes the psychological side of the study. In the book there is no trace of pompous importance, the desire to give results by hiding the methods. The book is decorated and animated by the humorous drawings of "Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and . In. Novozhilova and unexpected, but relevant epigraphs, from Christmas to Bulgakov, in verse and prose . Not a boring lecture, but a conversation with a brilliant, knowledgeable and witty interlocutor - this is the general impression of the book. Even a person who is far from space problems will be happy to run the book, skipping, perhaps, calculations. The famous Frenchman of the 19th century . Camille Flammarion published "Astronomy", "Astronomy for All", and "Astronomy for Ladies". Shouldn't the author of the book B. In. Beletsky, and with him the publishing house, to think about the urgent second edition of the book, and perhaps about our Soviet equivalent of "Space Bodies for Ladies." In any case, now it is no easier to buy a book by Beletsky than the "Dangerous Liaisons" by Choderlo de Laclos, a one-volume B. Pasternak or "Airport" A. Hayley . Even this reception I write, using a specially issued to me for the time editorial copy. It is obvious that it is necessary to proceed to the consideration of the shortcomings of the book, at least in order to prove that (in difficult conditions!) the reviewer has read it .. Being a physicist, the reviewer sees the main drawback in the fact that there is little physics in the book. The problems are formulated as systems of Newton's equations for three Cartesian coordinates: x / (x, y, z, t), ... This is probably the most direct way . to calculate the computer. But physicists have developed a number of concepts, such as anergy, moment, resonance, parametric resonance....... Each concept has a certain (precise or approximate) mathematical meaning .. [ Machine calculation automatically satisfies the law of conservation of energy for forces independent of time. With mathematics, one can perhaps dispense with physical concepts......... But should this be done when it comes to the presentation and explanation of the results? !One specific sentence: special attention should be paid to the fact that in the Newtonian central gravitational field of one point mass of the orbit are closed ellipses.......... This fact is not known to follow from the laws of conservation of energy and moment, it is specific to the potential of Ig. In the hydrogen atom and in the solar system, small deviations of the orbit from closure (the displacement of the perihelion of Mercury and the Lambian level shift) become of great fundamental importance. In these small effects, the further development of the theory of the atom (quantum electrodynamics) and the theory of gravitation (Einstein’s general theory of relativity) is confirmed. So, we need a second, revised and updated edition of the wonderful “Essays” in . In. Beletsky, marking (as the reviewer would very much like) the beginning of a new style of scientific literature . And until then, let the readers of this review be jealous of the readers and owners of the first edition of the book .. I. B. Zeldovich . I immediately took the book and then bought it... I have no regrets. I recommend it to everyone.. Regardless of level of education and interests .
