Petty, William (162387) English economist and statistician, who left a noticeable mark in the history of economic science, although there is still no single point of view on his scientific contribution. Some authors consider him as an outstanding representative of mercantilism ,. others see his main merit in creating the foundations of statistical-economic method of research and economic statistics, Others consider the founder of a new direction in science , from which the English classical political economy subsequently grew. The collection includes almost all of Petty's major works - "Treatise on Taxes and Contributions" (A Treatise of Taxes and Contributions, 1662), "Word to the Wise" (Verbum Sapienti, 1665); Political Survey or Anatomy of Ireland (1672) ; "Political Arithmetic (Essays in Political Arithmetic, 1683).
