An unusual rare book - a collection of incidents related to the buried alive (meaning not a method of particularly painful execution, but an accident, a medical error) Some of the stories in the book about patients sleeping strong lethargic sleep ended tragically, the part had an unexpected happy ending. The stories are taken from memories and chronicles of the 18th-19th centuries, mostly French. It describes a very common fear of people of that time before the burial alive - taphophobia: in the spiritual one it was said that before the burial of the body to pierce the skull, others bequeathed to pour a solution of arsenic into the stomach after death. A rich Englishwoman, who died not so long ago, left 50 guineas to the one who, after her death, will separate her head from her torso. All her life she was tormented by the thought of being buried alive. To such strange and terrible desires led some people to fear death in the grave a painful death. The book also provides instructions on how to act to correctly diagnose lethargic sleep or, conversely, to make sure that a person is finally dead. One of the first works on resuscitation, contains a number of recommended measures to prevent the "burial of the dead."
