The pages of the diary of Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt for May - November 1908 contain his reflections on the last months of his life. At that time, Father enjoyed enormous popularity and reverence among his contemporaries, he was known not only in Russia, but throughout the world; Church recognition of his pastoral merits was expressed in his appointment as a present member of the Holy Synod. Despite serious illnesses, he was still immersed in an active liturgical and deeply spiritual life. But anxiety about the fate of the homeland, which had entered a period of military failures, and the society, which was losing the Orthodox faith and being tempted by heterodoxy, worried the heart of the elder. All this was reflected in his notes. One of his contemporaries called the diaries of Father John “a comforting spiritual testament” of Father to true believers.
