From the back of the book:This book is intended for students taking the final years of an engineering or diploma course. Students taking Higher National Certificate courses should also find it useful.The work follows on from the author's earlier book—Mechanics of Machines, Elementary Theory and Examples, and for the sake of completeness, some of the theory in the elementary book is repeated here, being abbreviated or expanded as appropriate. Each chapter consists of a concise but thorough statement of the theory, followed by a number of worked examples in which the theory is amplified and extended; a large number of unworked examples are also included. In general, the questions are taken from examination questions set by the Universities and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Following the adoption of the Systéme International d’Unités, the text and numerical questions of the first edition have been converted to SI units and the opportunity has been taken to add some further questions, both worked and unworked. This revision has necessitated resetting the whole book.
