Arguing that the safety of the American workplace falls almost solely on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) personnel, this report evaluates the adequacy of the current OSH workforce and offers recommendations on training and adjustments that will improve the ability of OSH personnel to ensure safety. The report concludes that there is an inadequate amount of OSH services in most small and a number of larger workplaces. Current problems identified include inadequate training in the prevention of traumatic injury, a lack of research in changing workplace demographics and health care realities, and a lack of graduate and PhD OSH training programs.
