Jasper Fforde used one as a metaphor for the transition between life and death and I’d be lying if I didn’t have that, and the final story of Sapphire and Steel, in my mind when I wrote this story.I know it can be hard to keep track of all the characters in a long running series so to help out I’d like to remind you that not-Nicole is the human changeling child whose mum tried to send her back to Faerie.
