Takes place just after Foxglove SummerThere’s something haunting about a motorway service station at night, it might be the melancholy rumble and swish of traffic or that they exist as islands of fluorescent light amongst the rural darkness. Jasper Fforde used one as a metaphor for the transition between life and death and I’d be lying if I didn’t have that, and the final story of Sapphire and Steel, in my mind when I wrote this story.I know it can be hard to keep track of all the characters in a long running series so to help out I’d like to remind you that not-Nicole is the human changeling child whose mum tried to send her back to Faerie.
