The cruiser “Algiers” is the best French “Washington” cruiser and one of the best ships of this class in the world. Its design is the result of the consistent evolution of the French “Washington” type cruisers and unique design solutions unique to this ship. When writing the book, along with publicly available sources, original design materials were used, which made it possible, in some cases, to determine the “philosophy” of design, both the ship as a whole and its individual systems. The fate of this magnificent ship was short and tragic, like most of the French fleet in the Second World War. Having entered service in September 1934, in November 1942 the ship was destroyed by its crew, along with other ships, at the main fleet base of Toulon.
