The main features of the Poltava-class battleships were: an increase in the design displacement adopted for Baltic battleships to 10,000 tons, a fundamentally new composition and placement of the main artillery. This made the final transition to the world standard of the squadron battleship type and opened up new opportunities for its improvement and development.
