The book “The Adventures of the Little Cod” (1948) was first published in Russian in a translation by Yuliana Yakhnina and Sofia Tarkhanova more than half a century ago. According to Yu. Yakhnina herself, this is “a simple-minded popular science fairy tale.” Perhaps you couldn’t say anything more precise about the story by the Norwegian writer Olav Coucheron. The illustrations for the new edition were made by the artist Yana Khoreva, who tried to convey the diversity of marine flora and fauna with maximum authenticity. “The Adventures of the Little Cod” is a unique book, because it is based on the same combination of truth and fiction that will not leave even the smartest person indifferent reader. Why do fish never drown? What happens if you touch the tentacles of a jellyfish? What dangers do “sea flowers” pose? The book answers these and many other questions, inviting the child to go on a journey with a cheerful fish named Trond and find out what mysteries are hidden in the huge underwater world.
