In the novel "Bella" J. Giraudoux poses the problem of the crisis of democracy. The author brings out two families of French politicians. Both for several decades supplied France with presidents, prime ministers, and chairmen of chambers. The senior family represents the honor and talent of the nation. She is the keeper of the best traditions of French democracy. She was brought up on a sincere subjective belief in the government of the people, in the sovereignty of the people's will. Power for this family was therefore a great service to the people. Another family, a younger one, laughs at old fairy tales. She learned the principle: war is a profitable business. The severity of the conflict is developed through the love of a young man and a girl from these families hostile to each other.
