The novel “Bella” was written almost a hundred years ago, in 1925. Its author Jean Giraudou was not only a world-famous writer, but also a diplomat who held a high public office. Hence his detailed and accurate knowledge of many events that took place in France. Thanks to this, the reader will find in the novel not only a love story and a family story, but also a subtle satire, an ironic mockery of the people who make up, as it is called, the elite who rule the top of the country. However, behind the irony, there is still a story of true love between people belonging to two influential warring families, such as Montague and Capulet of the new time. And in the twentieth century (and maybe in the twenty-first?), Jean Giraudou tells us, Shakespearean passions can appear again and again, and the story of Romeo and Juliet can be repeated once again.
