From an interpreter, Norman Davis, one of Britain's best-known and most-cited historians, studied at St. Magdalene's College, Oxford, then at the Jagiellonian University, where he studied the Soviet-Polish War. Since 1971 he has taught Polish history at the University of London. In 1981 he published his book God's Playground on the history of Poland, and in 1984 his book Heart of Europe on the role of Polish history in its present. The book "White Eagle, Red Star" was first published in 1972, and is his first serious scientific work. When referring to political realities, one should remember the geopolitical situation, the modern writing of this book. Polish translation was also used for the translation of this book (Znak, Krakw 1998). Geographical names are given in the writing, acting in Russia and Poland in the era of the described events. To avoid double-translation errors, quotations from Polish sources were translated from Polish originals, respectively, Russian originals of the quotes given by the author from Soviet sources were also found.
