Offered to the attention of pious readers, translated into modern Russian speech, prayerful reflections are borrowed from the book of the Athonite monk Fikara “Vertograd Soulful” .. This book was translated into Church Slavonic by the well-known zealot of Orthodoxy in Western Russia, Archimandrite of the Holy Spirit of the Vilna Monastery Leonty Karpovich and published in Vilena in 1620. These reflections represent mainly excerpts from the inspired creations of the Holy Spirit. Ephrem the Syrian, who has justly learned the preferred name of the preacher of repentance ; but excerpts of these, very well selected, are not always given literally; In some places, they are supplemented by their own reflections of the pious St. Fikara and, in general, produce that quiet, but at the same time deep, soul-pleasing impression, which differ only from the patristic creations .. It is truly the weeping of a penitent soul who pours out his sorrow before the infinite mercy of the Lord.
