The book presented is the result of twenty-five years of work . It contains poems by French poets of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, translated by P. Antokolsky . It is mostly a collection of civic, publicist poems. The introduction to them are the three most popular songs of the first French revolution, among them the national anthem of France, Marseilles, and the book ends with poems written in 1951-1952. This is not an anthology or a textbook .. Such a task is not within the power of one poet and translator .. There is a lack of breadth of coverage for the textbook. For anthology indisputable in the selection of material. There may be omissions here and it may be easy to detect the imprint of personal bias. And yet this book can help in the study of history and can give an idea of the revolutionary poetry of the French.
