Charles Nodier - a figure in the history of French literature is very peculiar His literary work is inseparable from the history of French romanticism - at the same time, among French romantics, he always stood apart. He was a contemporary of two literary "generations" of Romanticism - and did not actually belong to either of them. He was a kind of "discoverer" in Romanticism - and always found himself in opposition to the romantic literature of his time. The Soviet reader is familiar with the work of Charles Nodier from the translations of Jean Sbogar and several novels; a significant part of these translations was published in the 1930s. This edition aims to somewhat supplement the ideas about the author of “Jean Sbogar”, showing the main stages of his creative path. Nodier's works are arranged in chronological order. The collection includes never-before-translated “Exiles”, “The Painter from Salzburg” and “Adele”
