William Morris (18341996) was an English poet, writer, translator, artist, designer, publisher, inventor and public figure, a truly outstanding mind and largely iconic personality of the Victorian era. In Russia, Morris is known mainly as a socialist thanks to the novelutopia "News from Nowhere, or the Age of Peace" (1890) In the West, however, he is remembered primarily as a writer who created a genre of fantasy from a sparkling mixture of a chivalric novel and a fairy tale; a writer whose banner would later be picked up by J.
