Hercule Poirot is invited for the weekend to relax in the estate of his friend, Lady Encaytl, bearing the name "Devil". Arriving at the scene, the detective sees an amazing sculptural composition, created, it would seem, specially for his arrival. Dr. Christow lies picturesquely in a pool of red paint, his wife Gerda stands over him with a gun, and the rest of the guests froze around in a "silent pause." However, reality had nothing to do with art: the red paint turned out to be blood, and the gun in the hands of a woman was very real. It is murder.. Poirot finds out that the deceased led a rather complicated personal life during his life and all his "attachments" are currently in "The Hollow" All evidence points to Christow's wife. But Poirot hears something's wrong here....
