This article vividly demonstrates Freud's rationalistic approach to art: he is not inclined to deeply experience a work of art, not knowing what causes such an experience. On “Moses...” Freud wrote: “I treat this work like a beloved child .. During the three private weeks of September 1913 . I stood in front of the statue every day, studying it, measuring it, sketching it, until I reached the understanding that I dared to express in the article, however, only anonymously. It was only much later that I legalized this non-psychoanalytic child.” Before Freud, most critics believed that Moses' position was due to his intention to jump up and fall on the fans of the golden calf. And Moses said to them, “Do not be afraid, for Moses is afraid.... Some biographers note the connection between the image of Moses and Freud's experiences for the fate of the psychoanalytic movement, which was threatened by a split. Like Moses, Freud leans toward restraint.
