Night and Day (1919) is the second novel by the famous English writer Virginia Woolf (1882-1941), one of the founders of modernist literature. This novel is largely autobiographical, although the author assured that the prototype of the main character Catherine was her sister Vanessa, whose name appears in the dedication. "Night and Day" is similar to the classic English novel: there is a love triangle, humorous lyric sketches, lengthy dialogues, detailed descriptions of nature and life. However, the traditional form of the author fills with new content: this is the attitude of the main characters to love and marriage. Catherine and Ralph are dreamers, their attempts to get closer are burdened with painful reflections, doubts about how true their feelings are. And yet, despite their failures, they confidently move from dream to reality, from night to day. Translation: H. Usova
