[ ) Theophanes is an extraordinary man and a prolific writer. Having been a teacher and head of theological educational institutions, a member of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, an abbot of the Russian embassy church in Constantinople, a bishop, in 1872 Theophanes goes into prison (from where his nickname is the Recluse), in which he will remain for the rest of his earthly life for as long as 28 years. However, Theophan the Recluse himself claimed that he was locked "not in the forms of the strictest asceticism, but in the forms of unobstructed scribery" .. The words of s. Theophanes on this occasion: "When your prayer is strengthened to such an extent that everything will keep you in the heart before God, then you will have a prison without a prison..." Theophan the Recluse did not write specifically dogmatic works. The main themes of his writings are moral theology and asceticism. Theophanes has many interpretations of the Holy Qur’an.
