The novels of the French writer Marcel Eme (1902-1967) “The Boxes of a Stranger” and “The Coming Camera” are published in Russian for the first time. In terms of complexity of composition and deliberate nudity of literary techniques, they are close to the searches of some representatives of the “new novel”, as well as the line of absurdity among existentialists. The novel “Stranger Boxes” against the background of a semi-detective, semi-fictional plot with humor that reaches sarcasm, presents a strangely confusing relationship of the characters with their small momentary tragedies and global philosophical research. It is as if in an old film the heroes of the novel “The Coming Camera” flash, in which deep feelings are boldly combined with base instincts, admiring aesthetic conversations with outright stupidity, noble friendship with indifferent betrayal.
