The Great French Revolution is one of the brightest pages in the history of mankind. Its main events took place in Paris, where the people stormed the Bastille and overthrown the monarchy, where the principles of freedom, equality and brotherhood were proclaimed from the rostrum of the Convention, where revolutionaries exterminated each other in a bloody struggle for power. At the end of the XIX century, the famous French historian Georges Lenotre first tried to reconstruct the Parisian episodes of the revolution, painstakingly recreating the flavor of the time, including the layout of houses, furniture and clothes of Parisians. On its pages come to life Robespierre and Danton, Queen Marie Antoinette and unknown sans-culottes. Lenotre's book became a classic in France and has been reprinted many times. It was first translated into Russian in 1895 by the famous writer Nadezhda Taffy and her sister Elena Lokhvitskaya. For this edition, this translation has been substantially updated and provided with comments.
