The monodrama "The Human Voice" Cocteau wrote in 1930 for the actress and the phone, feeding the plot with the asphyxiating atmosphere of a lonely women's apartment somewhere on the boulevards. The main role at the premiere was played by the French star Bert Bovey, and since then this role has become beneficial for many great actresses of theater and cinema, such as Anna Manyani, Ingrid Bergman, Simone Signoret .. Despite a long-standing friendship with Jean Cocteau, Francis Poulenc waited 29 years before deciding to write an opera on the plot of The Human Voice. After making a number of minor notes, he used the original text of the play as a libretto. Poulenc's muse was the famous French soprano Denise Duval, whose performance of this part is still considered a reference. Drama of a woman left by her lover, told in the form of a monologue, or rather a dialogue on the phone with a man whose voices the viewer does not hear
