Maxim Gorky . About the Jewish People (stories, journalism) . — Foreword, compilation and notes M. Weinstein . — Weinstein, Jerusalem, 1986. — 176 s. — Electronic Publishing . Andrey Nikitin-Perensky and Alexei Balakin . FROM THE COMPOSITOR This collection is timed to the 50th anniversary of the death of A. M. Gorky is devoted to one topic - the attitude of the famous Russian writer to the Jewish people, his struggle against anti-Semitism, his public activities for the assertion of equality of Russian Jewry. The collection does not claim absolute academic completeness. His task is different - for the first time to bring together those works of Gorky, which were most fully affected by the constant interest of the writer in the life of the Jews of Russia. The book does not include, with the only exception, "Jewish" excerpts from Gorky's works (from the novel "The Life of Klim Samgin", from the second version of the play "Vassa Zheleznova", etc.) ), as well as samples of the writer's epistolary heritage (with the exception of a letter to G. Gordon). A small volume of the book, it is hoped, will not prevent the reader from experiencing the diversity and significance of the "Jewish theme" in the work of Gorky, its organicity for the whole socio-literary path of the writer.
