The Bald Singer is Ionesco's first play. It premiered on May 11, 1950, at the Midnight Theatre in Paris (directed by N.) Batai). It is very revealing - within the framework of the aesthetics of absurdity - that the bald singer herself not only does not appear on the stage, but in the original version of the play was not mentioned. According to the theatrical legend, the name of the play arose from Ionesco at the first rehearsal, due to the reservation of the actor rehearsing the role of a fire major (instead of the words "too bright singer", he pronounced "too bald singer") Ionesco not only fixed this clause in the text, but also replaced the original version of the title of the play (Englishman without a case). Ionesco wrote his "Fox Singer" under the impression of an Anglo-French phrasebook: everyone knows what meaningless phrases in all kinds of phrasebooks.
