In this volume are collected the teachings of Elder Paisius relating to passions and virtues .. These words do not constitute a systematic teaching and do not encompass all passions and virtues: they are composed of the answers of the elder to questions about the recognition of passions. After his death in July 1994, the Blessed Elder Paisy Svyatogorets left the world a spiritual heritage his teachings. A simple monk, who received only elementary education in elementary school, but was generously blessed with wisdom according to God, he truly exhausted himself for the sake of his neighbor. His teaching was not preaching or catechism. He lived according to the Gospel himself, and the teachings stemmed from his own life, the hallmark of which was love. He “formed himself” according to the Gospel, and therefore, first of all, taught us with all his appearance, and only after that with his evangelical love and God-enlightened word .. When meeting people who are so different from each other, the Elder did not just patiently listen to what they believed in him. With his holy simplicity and reasoning, he penetrated into the very depths of their hearts .. Their pain, their anxiety, their hardships the Elder made his own. And then, in an inconspicuous way, there was a miracle a change in man. “God,” said the Elder, “works a miracle when we heartily participate in the pain of another person.”
